About Therapy

1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem of some kind each year in England. (NHS England) Truth is, nobody teaches us how to manage our tricky brains so it's easy to get caught up in unhelpful cycles of thinking, emotions and behaviours.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on identifying and changing negative or unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. It's based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and actions are all interconnected, and by changing one of these, we can positively impact the others. CBT is a structured and goal-oriented approach, often involving specific exercises and techniques to help individuals develop coping mechanisms and healthier ways of thinking and behaving. It's commonly used to treat a variety of mental health conditions, including anxiety disorders, depression, PTSD, and insomnia.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy approach designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories.  It involves recalling a disturbing memory while simultaneously engaging in bilateral stimulation, most commonly in the form of side-to-side eye movements. This process helps the brain to reprocess the traumatic memory, reducing its negative emotional impact and making it feel more in the past.
